My Mission

Sarah J Chapman • August 5, 2020
As humans we are hardwired for STORIES, fictional stories and true stories alike. They inspire us, entertain us, teach us, and fill us with hope;all the while sharing ideas and ideals. Obvious? Yes, when it is on the screen - but did you ever think of yourself as a storyteller? #writeanewstory is my mission to show you how you are in fact the storyteller in your own life and can take control of any aspect of it by becoming the empowered author of it. #writeanewstory is about clearing the emotional fog and revealing the story exactly as it is. It is about supporting you as you decide what chapters you want to keep and what areas need reviewing and then it is about arming you the your long term with tools to create and rewrite as often as you want.
At the level above the individual my mission is to help the individual understand themselves better so that they can, in turn, understand others better; any small increase in understanding in any one individual has no choice but to show up as an expression of increased compassion in the world #writeanewstory is about a new narrative for the world, one person, one story at a time.

What is a Story? Think for a moment on how often everyday conversations involve telling (or listening to) a recent event in someone’s day.Did you ever notice that it is never neutral – your friend or family member know how you feel and how to react to the story (if they want to stay in your good books) from hints right from the start about your feelings towards the person or the events. That is because we are all experienced storyteller’s, we know how to craft and design our stories to highlight our feelings about the person or events whilst simultaneously retelling it. The injustice, success or the approval or disapproval of a person or an event seep through as naturally as the words strung together.

We retell events in our lives in the shape of a story because that is how we experience it. Stories connect us! We experience comradery and connection as we unite in our feelings about the villains and victims of our stories. The problem is, in our search for meaning and connection – it is inevitable that we become so involved in our story (our perception of events) that we are completely ‘sold’ on this as an accurate depiction of ‘reality’. The problem is – you guessed it – we are only creating our version of ‘reality’ when we add any meaning to what happened. The event itself may be recollected with precision in chronological order, the people named in the story, locations etc. all accurate BUT the second we start to suggest emotions, motivations and meanings we have started to move into the realm of theory. The problem is we are, generally speaking, seriously lacking in this area of determining fact from fiction in our retellings. #writeanewstory is aimed at helping determine the facts from the fiction to set you free from the captivity of your stories.

Is NLP for Me? In my opinion, NLP is for everyone! Well, more accurately it is incredibly useful to the majority of the population. This is because not only is it a powerful tool to help access results, it is incredibly diverse in how it assists and supports personal development.

The techniques are essential for the person who feels ‘stuck’ and needs help ‘moving forward’. It may be that the term ‘breakthrough’, feels appropriate here, especially if ‘moving forward’ or ‘progress’ is feeling difficult - even impossible. If the level of frustration you are feeling is becoming overwhelming and you might say you want to ‘give up’ then you might be at the point where we would use NLP to first create a breakthrough that simply starts the process by allowing you to feel that you are capable of creating change. If you are trying to lose weight but have no belief that you can achieve it, it is irrelevant which plan you use because you already decided at a subconscious level that the plan will not work. Remember the RAS(Reticular Activating System).?

It may be that you are looking to achieve a ‘next level’ in your relationship, career, health, spiritual or family life. It could be any area of your life. NLP and coaching can help to identify exactly what is ‘missing’ for you and help you work towards setting goals and achieving them.

The reason I talk about language 'so much' is because it is key to every relationship (including the one you have with your self). How you talk, choices you make with your language, structural choices - even the intonation and speed you use reveals your thought patterns (internal dialogue) and further compounds your experience of the world around you. So here's the thing... I think right now we would all agree that we want a world with more peace, more unity and more love. How does my use of language have anything to do with that? Read the whole blog to find out. In brief, I believe that more peace is the same as less conflict and that starts with each of us individually. It is about how we interact with the people around us, it's the butterfly effect. My interactions in my daily life affect every human being I come into contact with which in turns affects (or has the potential to) every person they come into contact with and so on. Discovering the secrets in everyday interaction and understanding self-talk will one hundred percent help you understand yourself and others better. It is one of the keys to unlocking a way to greater peace in your life, greater possibility for unity rather than division and conflict and the ability to love yourself and others more. And, yes it is all possible through a greater understanding of the way we use language.
